Common issues & solutions

Hearing aids disconnecting frequently

It’s not uncommon for people to experience occasional disruptions in the Bluetooth connection between their hearing aids and smartphones. If you are experiencing frequent disconnections, then let’s try to fix the issue:

How to minimize Bluetooth connectivity issues:

  • Close unnecessary background apps before using the Jabra Enhance Select app. Background apps can interfere with hearing aid connectivity by consuming system resources, causing Bluetooth conflicts, and leading to disconnections or delays.

  • Ensure only the necessary Bluetooth devices are connected. If multiple devices (e.g., wireless headphones, smart home devices) are connected via Bluetooth, the phone may try to manage multiple Bluetooth connections at once, leading to instability.

  • Disable Bluetooth in other devices nearby, especially if you previously connected your hearing aids to them

  • Restart the phone occasionally to clear memory and refresh connections. This will help you clear all of the background apps as well.

Most of the time a simple reset of both your phone and hearing aids will clear the Bluetooth cache and reset connections, ensuring a smooth connection. See detailed instructions on how to restart your devices

My settings don't persist in the Jabra Enhance Select app

We understand how important it is to have a seamless listening experience, and you might be wondering why certain settings in the Jabra Enhance Select app don’t remain in place after you switch programs or restart your hearing aids.

Here some considerations:

  • If you have access to care, your hearing aids are programmed by your hearing care professional to provide the best possible sound based on your specific hearing needs. Persistent manual adjustments could override these carefully tuned settings, potentially leading to suboptimal performance.

  • When you switch between programs (e.g., All-Around, Restaurant, or Music mode), each one is designed with a unique set of parameters optimized for that specific environment. Changes made within one program do not carry over to others to maintain their distinct sound profiles.

  • Restarting your hearing aids resets temporary adjustments to ensure consistency and stability in performance. This prevents settings from stacking up over time and helps maintain sound clarity and battery efficiency.

Beginning with the Jabra Enhance Select app version 3.4.0, we enabled a feature called Persistent Settings that allows you to save your customized hearing aid settings. You have the ability to save your bass, middle, and treble settings for each of your 4 programs: All Around, Restaurant, Music and Outdoor.

While the app provides essential tools for on-the-go adjustments, our Audiology Team has access to additional customization options and can help fine-tune your settings based on your personal preferences, provided you opted for access to our Audiology team.

They can make changes to your preset environments, create new presets, and change the order of your presets. If you’re looking for more permanent changes, we recommend reaching out to them for assistance.

What you can do:

  • Schedule a video appointment with one of our hearing specialists to discuss programming changes and tailor your hearing aid experience to your specific needs.
  • Or, request an adjustment via the request an adjustment feature in your app - this is the fastest way to reach our Audiology team.

No sound or unsatisfactory sound quality?

If your hearing aids aren’t working as expected, follow these steps to troubleshoot the issue.

No sound?
In most cases (about 80%), earwax or debris is blocking the speaker or microphone. Common causes:

  • Cleaning issues: Regular cleaning ensures clear sound. Be sure to change both the dome and the wax filter as either could be plugged with wax Step by step instructions
  • Charging issues: Check both the hearing aid and the charging case. If the charging case works properly, check to see if the hearing aids are successfully pairing to the app. If your hearing aids are paired to the app this can indicate an issue with your receiver wires. Read this article

Poor Sound Quality?
If these are new hearing aids, remember that it will take some time to acclimate and they may feel or sound strange in your ears at first. This is normal.

If you hear feedback, muffled sound, need more volume, or you aren’t happy with the sound quality, it’s likely due to:

  • Fit issues: A poor fit affects sound clarity. Learn how to find a comfortable fit
  • Programming adjustments: Your hearing aids may need to be adjusted by one of our hearing care professionals, similar to how a piano is tuned. If you have access to Care*, request a remote adjustment or schedule an appointment via the app

As long as they are not uncomfortably loud, they are safe to use but if you are experiencing pain or discomfort  painful, please stop using your hearing aids and contact us.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Can I use my hearing aids with multiple devices?

Jabra Enhance Select models support one active Bluetooth connection at a time. If you want to use them with multiple devices, you need to manually switch connections.

If you’ve already connected to a previous mobile device and it is nearby, please turn off the Bluetooth on that device before connecting to another device in order to avoid interference.

Let’s walk you through an example: using your hearing aids with both your iPhone and iPad.

  • First pair the hearing aids to one of the devices
  • When you start the pairing process with the second device, turn the Bluetooth off on the other device.
  • When you want to use the iPhone, you will need to turn the bluetooth off on your iPad
  • When you want to use the hearing aids with your iPad, you need to turn the Bluetooth off on your iPhone.

If turning Bluetooth off on one of the devices does not work, you will need to unpair the hearing aids from one device before connecting to the second one. See here instructions on how to unpair and re-pair your hearing aids.

How do I enable hands-free calling?

For those with the Jabra Enhance Select 500 and 300, Hands-free calling is a feature that lets you receive calls without having to hold your phone. You can hear the caller through the hearing aids and your voice will be picked up by the microphones on your hearing aids - just like taking calls with Bluetooth earbuds.

This feature is enabled automatically as long as you have a hands-free compatible smartphone. Check to see if your device is compatible here.

if for some reason hands free calling is not working for you, the correct audio settings need to be enabled in your phone’s Bluetooth and accessibility settings. To check your current audio settings:

On iOs Devices:

  1. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Hearing Devices.
  2. Tap Audio Routing
  3. Change Call Audio to ‘Always hearing Devices’ or ‘Automatic’

On Android devices:

  1. Open Settings > Connected Devices > Bluetooth.
  2. Select your Jabra Enhance Select hearing aids and ensure Call Audio is enabled.
