Properly fitting your hearing aids is crucial for good sound quality, comfort, and security.
A good fit ensures the receiver wires and domes deliver sound effectively. Whether you’re going for a jog or just going to dinner, a proper fit also ensures they are comfortable and stay in place.
If you're new to hearing aids, you may need a few days to adjust to wearing them. Your brain needs time to adjust to processing sounds it may not have heard clearly in a while, so give yourself a few days to get used to wearing them. Wear them consistently each day to help your brain adapt and get the most benefit.
Try our tips below to ensure a comfortable and effective fit. Below are some tips to find your comfortable fit:
Putting them on properly:
- Place the body of the hearing device on the upper back portion of your ear. Once it is stable, you can more easily place the dome within your ear.
- Hold your hearing aid by the receiver wire (red = right ear; blue = left ear), and rest it on the back of your ear.
- Place the dome in your ear, and place the wire so that it follows the natural curve of your ear canal. You may need to push the bend of the wire with your finger until it rests securely on your ear. The wire should run along the shape of your ear and rest against your head.

Trying different dome sizes:
Which hearing aid dome is right for me?
Everyone’s ears are unique. Therefore, your hearing aids box contains 3 different dome styles in different sizes.
The ideal dome style is determined by your specific hearing loss, whereas the appropriate dome size depends on the physical dimensions of your ear canal. An ideal-sized dome will fill up your ear canal, but not so tightly that there is pressure or discomfort.
Open domes have small openings that allow some natural sound to enter the ear canal along with the amplified sound from the hearing aid. These domes are recommended if you want a more natural sound experience because they let low-frequency sounds (like your own voice) pass through naturally.

Closed domes are mostly solid, blocking more external sound and enhancing the hearing aid's amplification. They are recommended if you need stronger amplification of sounds, especially in lower frequencies.

Tulip domes are designed with overlapping petal-like shapes, functioning similarly to closed domes by blocking out external sounds. However, their unique shape offers a slightly different fit, which some may find more comfortable.
Apart from choosing the type of dome, you will need to choose the size. The goal is that they feel comfortable yet secure in your ear.
Tulip domes are only available in one size. Open and closed domes come in sizes small, medium, and large. The medium size is comfortable for most people; if it feels too loose or is moving around in your ear canal, size up to the large. If it is too tight, size down to the small.
Tip: If you experience whistling/feedback, or would like a richer sound quality, try a closed dome or a tulip dome. If you notice your own voice too much or feel plugged up when talking, try an open dome.

Checking receiver wire length:
How to measure the length for the receiver wire
Everyone’s ears are different. Measuring the correct receiver wire length helps ensure your hearing aids are comfortable and provide optimal sound performance.
Signs your receiver wire may be the wrong size:
- Too short: the hearing aid pulls or doesn’t sit comfortably behind your ear.
-
Too long: the wire is loose, creating a gap or allowing the hearing aid to move around.
All of our hearing aids come with Size 2 receiver wires , which is the most common size but we are able to provide four different sizes on request.
How to measure your ears

What you need:
Your Ear Measuring Tool, included in your Jabra Enhance box.
Step by Step instructions:
- Remove the hearing aids from your ears and glasses if you wear them.
- Take out the Ear Measuring Tool from your Jabra Enhance box.
- Use the red side for your right ear.
- Use the blue side for your left ear.
- Place the straight edge of the tool over the top of your ear, like a pair of glasses. Keep it straight. ( look at the photo above for an example)
-
Take two photos, one for each ear (like the one above):
- Point the camera directly at the ear you’re measuring.
- Make sure the entire ear and measuring tool are clearly visible.
- It may help to ask a friend or family member to take the photo.
- Pro tip: Make sure the tool isn’t covering your ear.
- Send your two photos to our Customer Support team via email, with a short description of what's going on.
What happens next?
Our team will review the two images to determine if a different size is needed, depending on which number on the measuring tool aligns the best with the top of the cartilage.
If a different size is needed, our team will send you a new size and you will receive an email with the shipping confirmation. This process may take 3 to 7 business days.
If you can't find your ear measuring tool, you can print one or ask our Support team to send you a new one.
